SG50: Best of Singapore OMA Task
In 2015, Singapore will celebrate her 50th year of Independence. The SG50 Committee that is led by the Minister for Education, Heng Swee Keat and minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Lawrence Wong, seeks to draw Singaporeans from all walks of life to join in a 2 year birthday celebration through participation in various programmes. Proposals for more celebration ideas are also requested at the same time and funds are promised for those ideas that are selected.
For 2014, the focus is to reflect on our journey and to take pride in how far we have come as a country. Hence, the SG50 calendar this year kicked off with a Pioneer Generation tribute at the Istana and there will be more tribute events to honour the special role of our pioneers across different segments of the society for the rest of 2014.
In Fairfield, we also want to be actively involved in our nation's 50th birthday celebration. The government has done many things for the youth over the past 50 years and it will be interesting to hear from the youth, what they think truly reflects Singapore's best in the following areas through the medium of a blog:
(1) Food
(2) Sports
(3) Retail
(4) Popular Hangouts
As SG50 is also about celebrating the enduring values that we share as Singaporeans, values that undergird the Singapore Spirit- values that have stood us in good stead in the past and give us confidence for an even brighter future, in your blog entries, be sure to include:
(1) An introduction of the important features of the area you have chosen
(2) Why it should be considered as Singapore's best
(3) Explain how it reflects a unique Singapore Spirit
(4) Why you are grateful for it
The best 50 writeups from the level will be submitted to the SG Committee as Fairfield's proposal of a SG50 celebration idea. We hope to be chosen and to be given funding to host a webpage publication that will be read by youth from all over the world.
