Sports the Singaporean Way!

We might not be a known name in the international arena or a major sporting power  but our athletes have performed fairly well in regional as well as international competitions. We have 2 Olympic medals that we are very proud of and we have seen fairly decent achievements in the Asian games.
So you must be wondering why am I even blogging about sports which has not brought about much fame for for Singapore.
Generally Singaporeans like to participate in a diverse range of sports activities for recreation. Yes, we like to exercise and keep fit as much as we like to eat. Popular activities would be football, rugby, badminton, bowling, swimming, tennis, netball and of course golf.
In recent times more and more golf courses have sprout around the island making golf a popular sport not only for the rich but for all classes. There are even golf classes offered for children who have a keen interest to nurture them from young. As an avid golf player, I must agree that playing golf has not only worked on my focusing abilities but also taught me a lesson on two on importance of patience and staying calm.

The Singapore Sports School was opened in 2004 and it is the only school in Singapore that offers selected youths an integrated academic and sports programme. The vision of this school is to excellently develop student athletes with an international reputation.
Vision 2030 is another noteworthy government initiative. The spirits of Vision 2030 is to live better through sports. It is believed that sports can maintain Singapore's social integrity and economic strength. Sports is seen as more than just winning medals and keeping fit. It increases diversity within our multiracial society and teaches us values that will always be deeply etched in our minds.

The Government is giving lots of importance to the sports arena. Marathons are organised in abundance and the take-up rates are astonishing. Sports is not only viewed as a competitive element but focus is paid to bring Singaporeans together and values to be embedded in our minds.
Yes, this little red dot has more to offer than you could have imagined. We are rich in values and beliefs.
