Labrador Nature Reserve

Labrador Nature reserve, or locally known as Labrador park is a place located in the southern part of Singapore. It contains the only rocky-sea cliff on the mainland that is accessible to the public. Since 2002 it has been declared as a nature reserve. Labrador Nature reserve plays a significant role in Singapore’s history, as beside it there was a hill which was where Fort Pasir Panjang used to be, the hills vantage point led the British to identify it as a defence site to protect the entrance to the harbours of Singapore. It became one of the nine sites that the British had set up their batteries. Today it is where many families and tourists come to enjoy the cool sea breeze and to relax.

It can be considered one of Singapore’s best as both the old and the young can find something to do there. For the old it can be a place where they come to relax after a long and tiring week of working, they can hear the sound of the waves crashing on to the coast and feel the refreshing sea breeze, the lush trees behind the coast also help to shield the area from the sun making it cooler. For the young, there is a playground inside of the park, they could also visit the underground bunkers of Fort Pasir Panjang and look at the War relics and Labrador secret tunnels which will let them experience the military history of the British rule during world war II.

It reflects a unique Singapore Spirit as it shows that we do not forget our history, there are many war memorials there which reflect some of Singapore’s history. The fact that the government still preserves it shows that Singapore treasures its history a lot.

I’m grateful to Labrador Nature reserve as it helped to me to spend more time with my family. My parents would always bring me and my siblings to Labrador Nature reserve during the weekends when I was younger to relax and to play.
